José Ferrer y Esteve (Girona, 1835 - 1916) was a Catalan composer, guitarist and teacher that wrote more than hundred works for guitar in various styles and genres such as dances, minuets and poetic music. After studying with José Brocá and following the pedagogical line of Aguado, he made friends in Barcelona and Paris (where he spend most of his life commuting from and to) with Isaac Albéniz, Jules Massenet, Tárrega, Llobet, Arcas and Emilio Pujol. His contribution to music and the Guitar became hugely relevant through his performances, compositions and dedication to teach the next generation of guitarists.
